The Elevator

Going up?

Our primary goal at DevSmash is to supply developers with the freshest and most relevant information on the web. With thousands of other developer communities out there, all vying for your loyalty, it is only fair that we explain why you should hang out with us. Consider this our elevator pitch:

The DevSmash Philosophy

DevSmash is a very new community, and as such, we expect our look, feel, and features to evolve greatly over time. With that said, we do have a few guiding principles that determine the choices we make when expanding our site:

  1. Do what Works

Someone is going to say it: we are not original. We didn't invent blogs, social bookmarking, project sites, or anything else you'll find on this site. Our aim is to be an online force in the dissemination of knowledge, as it pertains to developers. These tools are proven instruments for simultaneously building communities and sharing information, and we are excited to implement features towards that end.

  2. Use the Community

To speak in first person for a second, my entrance into the online developer community took place on my personal blog (blog.jeremymartin.name). Somewhere in the midst of pontificating on this and that, I was struck with an awareness that I was not now, nor ever would be, the definitive source on all things pertaining to life, death, and JavaScript. I decided then and there that I wanted to pour my efforts into something more community driven. DevSmash is, in essence, a sounding board for the developer community at large - this is where the best content comes from.

  3. Give Back

We've benefited a lot over the years from the generosity and ingenuity of other developers. DevSmash itself is built on top of open source technologies, and we learned how to use them through free, online tutorials. While certain features of DevSmash are geared towards helping you find great external resources, we also aim to be an authoratative source for original content.

In the interest of keeping things brief, we'll wrap things up here. Thank you for checking us out - the only way for DevSmash to be a success is through the involvement of like-minded developers. If this sounds like you, we sincerely hope you'll consider joining us.
